Empowering Healthcare Professionals: TSCS Hosts Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Workshop in Vikarabad

TSCS Conducts Orientation Workshop on Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia in Vikarabad on 24th Sept 2026
The Telangana Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) conducted a one-day orientation workshop on Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia at the District Collectorate Meeting Hall, Vikarabad, in coordination with the district health authorities. Around 200 participated the meeting.
The programme was attended by officials and healthcare professionals, including Government doctors, private gynecologists, AYUSH doctors, Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs), DM&HO officials and staff, with a focus on strengthening early identification, diagnosis and management of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia.
Dr. K. Sudhakar Lal, District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), Vikarabad, highlighted that identifying Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia during pregnancy at an early stage can help prevent severe complications through timely intervention, appropriate treatment and counselling.
Dr. Ratnavalli, Sr. Vice President of TSCS, along with Mr. Hemant Kumar, Coordinator, TSCS, conducted the orientation and educated the participating medical professionals on the early identification of symptoms, diagnostic procedures, management and appropriate referral of patients with Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia. Participants were also encouraged to attend the GANSID International Congress 2026, to be held at HICC-Novotel, Hyderabad, from October 23–25, 2026, to further strengthen knowledge, collaboration, and professional engagement in the field.

The workshop emphasized the importance of strengthening antenatal screening and early diagnosis to improve maternal and child health outcomes and move towards a Thalassemia- and Sickle Cell-free Telangana.
