57 Years of Resilience: Ajay Gandhi’s Journey of Hope at TSCS Hyderabad

Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society (TSCS), Hyderabad, had the privilege of welcoming Mr. Ajay Gandhi, a UK-based Chartered Quantity Surveyor and consultant, who has been living with Thalassaemia Major for nearly 57 years, for an inspiring interaction with our Thalassemia and Sickle Cell warriors, patients, parents and TSCS team.

Mr. Gandhi was diagnosed with Thalassaemia Major at just six months of age and has successfully built a fulfilling professional and family life while continuing his treatment. His personal journey reflects the importance of perseverance, discipline, hope, family support and adherence to medical care.

During his visit, Mr. Gandhi shared his testimonial and life journey, speaking openly about the challenges he faced, the difficult phases of his treatment and the milestones he achieved in his personal and professional life. He encouraged the patients and young Thalassemia warriors not to allow the condition to limit their aspirations, but instead to set meaningful goals in life, work towards them with determination and believe in their ability to achieve them.

He particularly highlighted that living with Thalassaemia should not prevent anyone from pursuing education, building a career, having a family and leading a meaningful and fulfilling life. His own journey—from overcoming serious health challenges to establishing a successful career, marriage and family—served as a powerful message of hope for everyone present. His closing reflection emphasizes that Thalassaemia is a part of his life, but does not define who he is.

The interaction also provided an opportunity for patients, parents and the TSCS team to engage directly with Mr. Gandhi, ask questions, share experiences and receive motivation and guidance.

Mr. Ajay Gandhi’s visit was a deeply inspiring and memorable experience for the TSCS community. His message to the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell warriors was clear: dream, set goals, remain disciplined, take care of your health and never give up on your aspirations.

TSCS sincerely appreciates Mr. Ajay Gandhi for sharing his remarkable journey and for giving hope, confidence and encouragement to our patients and families.
