On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day and Thalassemia awareness week, a symposium was organized by Indian Medical Association Hyderabad City Branch in association with IMA Academy of Medical Specialties on 11th May 2019 at IMA building, Hyderabad to bring about awareness of Thalassemia among the gynecologists. Dr.Suman Jain, CEO, Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society, delivered a lecture on “Prevention of Thalassemia” stressing on the inclusion of HBA2 test in antenatal screening to prevent the birth of further thalassemia children. Dr.Amarnath Kulkarni, Dr.Nitesh Kumar Agarwal and Dr.Shweta Agarwal spoke on endocrinological and gynecological aspects of Thalassemia. Mrs. Ratnavali, Vice President, TSCS spoke on “Parent’s Perspective about Thalassemia” at the symposium.

Gifts and cash prize were given to top three best performers by our president Mr. Chandrakant Agarwal, chief patron Mr. Naresh Rathi and Chief Medical Research Officer and Secretary, Dr. Suman Jain. The society has also distributed biscuits, chips and buttermilk to all the children.

On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day (8thMay), they have organized a Bike Rally yesterday on 5th May, Sunday at 9.00AM in association with Wanderers: The Royal Enfield Bullet Club of Hyderabad. Nearly 100 bikers participated in this rally to spread awareness on the prevention of Thalassemia with the FLAGS and roaming around the city.

Dr Mohan Gupta, MD, Aarogya HospitalsHundreds of people participated in this program, along with many dignitaries of the city. This rally began at 9.00AM, from the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society Bankat Lal Loya Bhavan, located at Shivarampally, ended 12.01PM at the Society.For the first time this society has organized an incredible and wonderful way of creating awareness in the community to prevent Thalassemia in Hyderabad.

Dr. Suman Jain, CEO & Secretary of the Society, told that the day is not far when Thalassemia can be eliminated completely from Telangana, but the pain of Thalassemia can be completely eliminated from our country by 2025, which is our primary goal of Telangana Free Thalassemia. All of us have to work together to make India Free Thalassemia by 2025 with dedicated effort.
